“Grant?”
Drake called out from the other room.
“Yes?” I called back, even as I got up from what I was doing and approached his study.
Drake had tried to argue that he didn’t need a study, but living in a manor wasn’t what either of us had planned for our future and I wanted him to have a place that was just his. I found Drake with his head buried in a cupboard, he pulled back, a perplexed look on his face.
“Are you looking for something?” I asked, leaning against the doorframe.
Drake looked sheepish as he pulled back. “Yeah, I was trying to find that chocolate I picked up when I accompanied Liam…” He trailed off as he caught the look on my face. “Grant, did you eat all my chocolate?”
“We’ve been married for 5 years, you can stop calling me Grant,” I deflected, even though I actually liked that he called me that. It was our things.
Drake wasn’t about to be distracted, especially not by that. “Grant…”
“Fine,” I admitted with a huff. “Yes! It was me. I was starving and I remembered it was there and how good it was…”
“What about the stuff I brought you?” Drake asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I ate that already,” I told him. “Before I went looking for yours.”
“That’s not like you at all,” Drake commented, “when did you get such a sweet tooth?”
I bit my lip. This really wasn’t how I had intended to tell him my news. The only reason I hadn’t yet was that I had wanted to make it a big moment and hadn’t figured out how to do so. But apparently, I’d run out of time.
Drake looked at me closely, realization dawning on his face. “Grant?” He asked softly, stepping towards me. “Are you…?”
I nodded, “yeah… I found out a couple weeks ago, while you were away,” I explained, “I was trying to find the right moment to tell you and nothing seemed right.”
Drake was quiet, just watching me.
“Are you happy?” I asked him softly. “I know we hadn’t planned… At least not yet…”
“Are you happy?” Drake countered, placing his hand on my face.
I nodded. “I am.”
“So am I,” He assured me and then grinned, “we’re having a baby!”
I laughed ecstatically, wrapping my arms around his neck. “We are.”
Drake picked me up and spun me around, causing me to groan. He immediately set me down, looking concerned. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” I assured him, “but my stomach is a little sensitive, so no spinning for a while.”
“Ok,” Drake promised, he placed his hand on my still flat stomach, a look of aw on his face that filled me with happiness. Maybe this hadn’t been a grand moment like I’d hoped, but that was ok, this was perfect. Besides, I should have realized by now, that Drake and I never needed big moments or gestures, it was the little ones that had brought us to this point and I had a feeling it would always be that way.
