I groaned as the alarm went off, wanting to ignore it and burrow down in the covers, and pretend the real world didn’t exist. Or at least hit snooze a dozen times.
But I did neither.
Instead, I reached over and turned it off quickly, not wanting the sound to disturb the man lying next to me. Because while it was time for me to get up and face the day, Seth had had a late set and hadn’t come in until almost 3 a.m.
These days we were running on completely different schedules, like ships passing in the night, but at least we were doing it in the same apartment. I had to lean over him to turn off the alarm and when I was done, I felt an arm circle around me pulling me into his embrace.
“Oh, I didn’t want to wake you,” I said apologetically.
“S’ok,” he said sleepily, “at least I get to see you.” He pressed his lips to mine, his arms wrapped tight around me.
I snuggled into his embrace, loving the feel of him. Eventually, though, I moved to get up, knowing I had to get ready.
Seth tightened his arms around me. “Stay a little longer?”
I glanced at the clock, calculating how long it would take me to get ready and go to the studio. “10 minutes,” I agreed, deciding I could quickly, it would be worth it to get a few extra minutes with Seth.
“How was the crowd last night?” I asked him as he shifted so that we were both lying on our sides, facing each other, his arms wrapped around me.
“Not bad,” he answered, “place was about half full and I think one or two of them might have actually been paying attention.”
“I’m sure you were great,” I told him sincerely.
“The manager wants to book me a few for more nights,” he added, his hands traveling down my back.
I let out a little squeal, shifting a little. “That’s great!”
“Yeah, it’s pretty cool,” Seth agreed, his hands continuing to wander until they were pushing at the waistband of my pajama pants.
I groaned. “Seth, we can’t,” I reminded him. “I have to be on set in less than an hour.”
Seth’s fingers linger for a moment and then he removed his hand. “I’ll be good,” he promised, kissing my forehead.
“I’m only shooting the one scene today,” I told him, “so I should be home by mid-afternoon.”
“Do you want to go out?” Seth asked, moving his hand up to play with my long, dark hair.
I shook my head. “No, I don’t want to share you.”
The rave reviews Tender Nothings received had translated into several offers for me, including the film I was currently working on, and a good review in the L.A Times meant that Seth was working better and better clubs. While it was a good thing that both of our careers were becoming more successful, it meant we didn’t always have as much time together as I’d like.
“Then we’ll order in and watch a movie,” Seth promised, “because I don’t want to share you either.”
“Sounds perfect,” I agreed and then sighed when I glanced at the clock. “I have to go.”
“And I should probably get back to sleep,” Seth commented, looking at the clock as well. “Since I’ve had roughly 3 hours of sleep.”
“You do that,” I said as I got up out of bed. I leaned over and pressed a quick kiss to his mouth. “I love you.”
“Love you too.” He murmured as he rolled over, already half asleep again.
I paused for a moment to look at him and then with a smile I headed towards the bathroom. I was a little pressed for time now, but it was worth it. Those little moments with Seth were the best part of my day and I hoped that never changed.
