What Comes Next: I’ve Got You

Summary: Allie and Owen say goodbye after his trip to New York.

Note: Set immediately after Right Here, and told from Owen’s PoV this time.

Owen wakes up with Allie in his arms, and his first thought is that he wishes he would have booked a later flight. He has no desire to get out of her bed. Slowly, gently shifting her, Owen reaches over to look at the time on his phone. An hour still, before he needs to actually get up. Allie sighs in her sleep, burrowing her face against his chest. It does something to his heart, that sleepy sound and the way she moves closer to him.

He loves the feeling of holding her like this, her bare skin warm on his. The ends of her hair tickle his arm and his chest, her breath a gentle puff against his neck. Owen brushes his lips over her forehead, and he swallows back a groan when she shifts, slipping her leg between his.

He’d meant what he’d said last night: he’s never felt such a burning desire for someone as he has for her. She’s beautiful, without question, but it’s so much more than that. She’s smart and funny and confident, strong and independent.

Owen likes how easy it is to talk to her and be with her, how readily the conversation flows between them. And despite the distance, he likes that he can so easily picture a future with her. He wants his future to be with her, whatever that brings, though he’s waiting to say those exact words until he knows for certain that she’s ready for them.

Owen feels Allie start to wake up, and the way she stretches against him and sleepily murmurs “good morning” makes it impossible not to kiss her. She returns his kiss readily, moaning softly when he slips his tongue past her lips. He shifts over her, gently brushing his fingers up and down her side.

“When do you have to leave?” Allie asks quietly, staring up at him.

“About an hour,” he murmurs, and sees her brow furrow.

“Hey. Don’t think about it. If you come out for my work function-“

“I am,” she says immediately, and he can feel his lips stretch into a smile.

“Good. That’s only two weeks,” he says, even though two weeks sounds like far too long right now.

From the look on her face, she’s thinking the same thing. Owen doesn’t want to spend this last hour with her thinking about having to leave, so he kisses her again and threads his fingers through her hair.

“Mmm. Owen,” Allie murmurs.

He loves hearing her say his name like that, aroused and still half-asleep. He lets out a noise of pleasure when she trails her fingers down his back and wraps her leg around his hip. They’re still bare from the night before, his hands wandering over her soft skin. He’s glad she asked him to stay. Her bed and her warmth and the way she’s looking at him are so much better than waking up alone in a hotel room. Allie’s hand drifts between them.

“God, Al,” he groans, thrusting into her touch.

She feels incredible, touching him and brushing kisses over his skin.

“I want you,” she whispers in his ear, guiding him into her.

“You have me,” he murmurs, watching her eyes close as he presses into her.

They slip easily into an unhurried rhythm, filled with soft sighs and gentle touches. Allie trails her fingers through his hair, up and down his back, and he kisses her again and again. He can tell when she’s close, the hitch in her breath and the way her legs tighten around him. His lips drift down to her neck, then over to her shoulder. She jumps and groans quietly when he finds a sensitive spot. Allie tilts her head to the side, inhaling shaky breaths as he gently sucks and nips at her skin.

Owen shifts his hips, just a little, and groans at her sharp inhale and the way she pulls his head back up, kissing him desperately and without restraint. Her fingers tangle in his hair, and he thrusts into her, watching her come apart underneath him. The feel of her muscles clenching around him and her breathy moans against his neck have him following right after her. He keeps himself propped up over, brushing slow, soft kisses to her lips, then shifts to the side, dropping against her bed and pulling her over him.

When Allie lifts her head up, she stares at him a bit dazedly.

“What is it?” he asks her, running his thumb over her cheekbone.

Allie flushes, laughing quietly and looking down. Her eyes burn into his when she looks back up.

“Nothing,” she says, resting her head back on his chest.

They lay there until his alarm goes off, and he feels Allie sigh when it makes its familiar trill. Owen tilts her chin up, trying to think of what to say.

“You’re incredible, Allie,” he finally says huskily. “I can’t wait until I can see you again.”

He sees her swallow hard.

“I can’t either,” she says.

When he’s dressed and standing at her door, she opens her mouth to say something, then closes it again, shaking her head.

“Al,” he says. “You know you can tell me anything, right?”

“I know,” she sighs, shifting her weight, then says, “It’s…I know we haven’t…defined this. What we are.”

She looks nervous, almost, and he takes her hands, squeezing gently, until her eyes meet his.

“I’m not seeing anyone else,” she continues. “I don’t…want to see anyone else. I just wanted you to know that,” she rushes out.

It warms him, makes him smile and makes him unbelievably happy that she feels this way. Owen pulls her closer, resting his forehead on hers.

“I’m not seeing anyone else either,” he assures her. “I haven’t, since, well…”

He pauses, then says, “Since before we met.”

Allie looks at him curiously when he pauses, and he laughs a little sheepishly.

“There’s this woman who goes to my gym,” he explains. “She asked me out a few days after we kissed, and I turned her down.”

“Oh?” Allie asks, her cheeks turning faintly pink.

Owen tilts his head down, pressing his lips to hers.

“I didn’t want to. I don’t want to,” he murmurs. “I can’t imagine going out with someone else, knowing I’d be thinking about you.”

Allie stares at him, a smile creeping across her face, then slips her hands out of his to wrap her arms around him. She mumbles something into his neck. He doesn’t catch all of it, but he does hear her say, “-perfect. Please tell me you have at least one flaw.”

Owen laughs and leans back. “Allie. Of course I do.”

She raises an eyebrow. “Really. Spill.”

He’s about to, but he catches sight of the clock in her kitchen and realizes he has to go, or he’ll be late.

“I’ll text you. All the terrible, secret bad habits I have,” he says, grinning at her.

Allie laughs. “You better.”

He caresses her cheek, then kisses her deeply. “I’ll see you in a couple weeks, Al.”

She kisses him back, her hands drifting up to run through the ends of his hair. “You will,” she murmurs. “Have a safe flight.”

Later, when he’s waiting for his connecting flight, he texts her.

Got one. I hate doing laundry. I wait until the last possible second. Used to drive my mom nuts. Oh. And I yell at the TV a lot when the Blackhawks play. You have been warned.😉

  1. Gah. I love this so much. I love Allie and Owen and it’s wonderful to get inside his head for a change.

    1. Thanks Misha! It was fun getting inside Owen’s head. He’s kind of a romantic, and was really falling for Allie at this point.

  2. I loved it 😍 I loved that you made it from Owens POV this time. I loved his bad habits 😁 (cough, cough, I hate doing laudry and I have a bad habit of yelling and swearing when I watch hockey). I said it before and I say it again. I love your stories about Allie and Owen 😗

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked this chapter. And that’s funny about the laundry and yelling during hockey. He has to have some bad habits. 😅

  3. Oh wow I’m so glad I found this because I feared you stopped writing Allie and Owen. This was so beautiful and sweet and it warmed my heart. Thank you for writing this!!

    1. Thank you so much for reading and commenting on this! I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😊 Allie and Owen are still one of my favorite ships to write, they’ve just been a little uncooperative lately.
