I’d also suggest reading The Missing Piece first because it covers Lilith’s background, which is going to be very important in this story. This story is going to be dark, I warn you that now. This is the story where the bad guy wins after all.

Prologue: Rebirth
It is a funny thing to be born twice.
I don’t remember my first birth, of course. The one that marked the beginning of the almost twenty-four years of my human life. But I will never forget the events that led to the end of that life and the beginning of my next one.
It was a love story gone terribly wrong; the human girl who fell in love with the monster and got herself killed. Except, my story didn’t end there because that monster granted me a second life, one I would never have chosen.
It should never have been allowed to happen. It went against all the rules, the ones that were supposed to hold vampire society together, keep war from breaking out. There should have been grave consequences for the actions that led to my second life.
But there weren’t because the day I died was the day that those rules were broken forever. The day that Adam Vega decided that he no longer cared about the rules. That this was his world and he was ready to claim it. He was also going to claim me while I was at it. In this new world of his, he was king and I was going to be his queen.
And that was when things really changed; because Adam had no idea what I really was, the potential I carried, and what he had just unleashed onto the world…
