Burn

Summary: Drake takes Mika camping. Set shortly after everything is resolved at court.

Note: Not canon.

Drake wakes her early. The sky is still dark, the birds just starting to chirp. Mika stirs awake, yawning and stretching against him.

“You ready?” he murmurs in her ear.

“Mm-hm,” she sighs, kissing him sleepily, his lips spreading into a smile against hers.

They dress and double-check their packs methodically, then slip out the front door, Drake locking it behind him. He takes her hand automatically, squeezing her fingers as they head up the well-worn trail not far from his house. It’s only been two weeks since she’s come back to Cordonia with Liam’s blessing, and it still sometimes takes her by surprise when she wakes up here, Drake next to her.

She’d asked him to take her camping her first day back, and he’d looked at her quizzically, but agreed. “You don’t seem like the type to go camping,” he’d explained with a smile.

“I’ll have you know I used to go camping with my grandparents every summer. Besides…,” she’d smirked, shamelessly running her eyes over him, “Out in the woods, all alone with Drake Walker? Sounds like a perfect weekend to me.”

He’d blushed, just slightly, when she’d winked at him. “Kelemen…”

“What?” she’d asked innocently, and he’d just laughed and shaken his head.

They crest a hill just before the sun comes up, and Mika completely understands now why Drake had insisted on leaving so early.   The sky gradually turns shades of soft pink and orange, the woods around them lighting up and the sun warming her face as it eventually comes over the hill completely.

“It’s beautiful,” she breathes, resting her head against Drake’s chest, nuzzling into him as he brings his arms around her back.

Drake hums in agreement. “My dad always insisted on leaving early so we could see the sun rise. It used to drive me crazy.”

He sighs, the faintest hint of sadness behind it. “I appreciate it now.”

Mika leans up to kiss his cheek. “I’m sure he knows,” she murmurs. “Thank you for bringing me here.”

“We should keep going,” Drake says finally, squeezing her hand, and they continue on the narrowing trail until they reach a relatively flat area amongst all the trees.

She stares at him unabashedly as they set the tent up, watching the ripple of muscle across his back and arms as they hoist the poles up and he starts pounding the stakes into the ground. His hair falls across his forehead, a look of concentration on his face as he makes his way around the tent.

“You gonna help, Kelemen?” Drake asks, raising an eyebrow.

Mika grins as she pulls the rainfly out of the bag, tossing it up and over the tent and tying it down. When the tent is up, they walk to the lake where Drake’s father used to take him fishing, and she giggles as he tells her about the time he’d teased Savannah about catching more fish than her, and she’d retaliated by pushing him in.  They wander along one of his favorite hiking trails, and climb up the rock outcropping he always used to go to, looking out over the trees and the lake.

She thinks she could sit there all day with him, the sun warming the rock underneath them, his chest solid against her back, his hands tangled with hers. She tilts her head back to look at him, cupping his cheek in her hand. “I love you,” she murmurs.

And even though they’ve said it before, he still has this surprised look on his face, like he can’t really believe that she means it. “I love you too,” he says, leaning down to kiss her.

“The sun’s going to go down soon. We should head back,” he says after a while.

After Drake starts a fire and they eat, Mika curls up next to him on one of the logs around the fire and they make s’mores. He shakes his head in mock irritation as she sticks her marshmallow directly into the flames.

“You’re going to burn it,” he points out.

“So? Burned marshmallows are the best marshmallows,” she says with a grin, yanking her marshmallow out of the fire and blowing on it before biting into it.

“Delicious,” she mumbles, and Drake rolls his eyes, but she can see the slightest smile on his lips.

They wait for the flames to die down and then douse the fire before heading into the tent for the night, changing by the glow of the lantern. She nuzzles into his chest, then grins wickedly as she gets an idea and slides her leg over his hip.

“Ever made love in a tent?” she whispers in his ear, nipping at his earlobe and then pressing slow, wet kisses down his neck.

“Can’t say that I have,” Drake answers in a low voice, and she shivers as he slides a hand low on her back and into the back of her pajama pants.

“Me neither.”

She moans as he slides her fully on top of him, pressing her hips down into his.

“Mmm,” she whimpers, leaning down to press her lips to his. He tastes of the s’mores they’d eaten earlier, chocolate and graham cracker and sticky sweet marshmallow.

She has every intention of teasing him, just a little bit, but his mouth is hot and insistent against hers, his hands gliding under her shirt and pulling it over her head. He rolls her to her back, moving his mouth down to her chest, his lips and teeth bringing her nipples into hardened peaks.

“Drake,” she groans, tugging at his hair and squirming as he kisses his way down her stomach.

She lifts her hips as he pulls her pajama shorts off, darting her hand into the opening on his boxer briefs before he can take her underwear off too.

“Fuck,” he mutters, dropping his head forward as she glides her hand over him, running her thumb over the tip of his erection.

He growls low in his throat, sliding his hand into the front of her underwear, his fingers teasing over her folds before he slides one finger into her, then another, pumping in and out and leaning down to kiss her.

“I want you,” Mika moans against his mouth.

Drake shoves her underwear down and kicks his boxer-briefs off before he settles between her hips. She squirms impatiently, thrusting her hips up into him as he kisses her slowly. She frowns as he refuses to move, pressing kisses across her jawline and neck.

“Drake,” she whines.

“You’re so impatient,” he whispers.

So she does the one thing that always seems to get to him, digging her fingers into his lower back and murmuring, “I spent months thinking about you, wanting you in my bed. I’m making up for lost time.”

Sure enough, he groans and sinks his teeth into her shoulder. “I know, baby.”

He presses into her before she can say anything else, his kisses messy and desperate as they move together. She inhales sharply as he thrusts hard against her, wrapping her legs around his back and burying her hands in his hair. Drake nips at her neck, her name a quiet moan as he starts moving faster.

He curses quietly as she clenches her muscles around him, his movements faltering briefly. In the pitch black of the tent, she finds she’s hyper-aware of the way his breathing picks up as he gets close, how overly-sensitive she is to the scrape of his stubble against her as he kisses her.

“Oh!” she gasps as he slides his hand between them and brushes his thumb over her clit. It pushes her over the edge, her legs tightening around him, Drake thrusting against her before he groans her name and comes. He drops down against her briefly, then rolls to the side, pulling her on top of him, his hand tangled in her hair.

She sighs contentedly, skating her fingertips over his bare chest, through the coarse dark hair, giggling as she slips her hand lower and he snatches it up.

“Give a guy some recovery time,” he laughs.

“Hmm. I’ve seen your recovery time, Drake. Should be any second now,” Mika teases him, pushing herself upright and pressing her mouth to his sweetly.

“Jesus,” he mutters, and she laughs again before snuggling back against him.

She’s almost asleep when she suddenly has a thought. “Hey Drake?”

“Yeah?”

“Ever gone skinny-dipping?”

He laughs, tickling her side lightly. “No. Now go to sleep, Kelemen.”

Mika grins, pressing a kiss to his chest. “Fine. Good night, Drake.”

“Good night.”

She hears him murmur, “I love you, Mika,” just before she drifts off, and it makes her smile.
