What’s Your Number?

Author’s Note: This takes place at the end of book 3/chapter 3 at Madeleine’s estate in Fydelia. After the moonlit dance lessons and the drinking game, I found it highly unlikely that my MC would retire to her quarters alone.  This is just a little snippet of Drake & MC’s developing relationship and having that infamous talk that we’ve all probably had at some point.  😊

This is actually the first fic I ever wrote/published, so I hope you like it! 😉

Emma slowed her breathing as she gradually came out of the blissful trance.  She became aware of her surroundings, her flushed body draped across Drake on the bed and her face nuzzled into his neck.  She inhaled a deep breath, savoring his woodsy masculine scent of sweat and soap and Drake . . . God, she would never get tired of him.  She reluctantly shifted herself off of him and curled herself on his right side between his firm chest and arm.  He instinctively wrapped his arm around her and pulled her closer, tracing tiny figure-eights on her upper arm.

He let out a soft deep moan as he began to slowly gain comprehension.  “Wow . . . . “ he exhaled, “I didn’t think that could get any better, but . . . Wow.”  He shook his head a bit, then smiled slightly as he leaned down to place a gentle kiss on her lips.  “Hi” he smirked.

“Hey yourself.”  Emma gazed up into his dark chocolate eyes and smiled back.  She lightly traced a fingertip over the tiny smile lines around his eyes.  She loved these moments alone with Drake, moments for just the two of them as they continued to learn each other.  “I think we may be getting better at that because we’ve been practicing so much.”  She gave him a mischievous grin.

“I can’t help it that you can’t keep your hands off me, Warner.”  Drake chuckled.

She perked herself up on her elbow and glared at him.  “Really Drake?!?”  She laughed.  “You really want to imply that I’M the one who can’t keep her hands off of you?”  She shook her head and giggled.

“Fine, fine . . . We’ll call it a tie.  Although I do remember you being a little bolder than normal tonight when I was simply trying to walk you to your room and kiss you goodnight.  Like a perfect gentleman.”  He winked at her.

She scoffed.  “Eh . . . That is not fair!  You initiate it every time you wear that damn suit.  You know what that does to me!”  She blushed and looked away, almost shy at being discovered for craving to feel her fiancé’s touch.

“Heh heh, I do know what it does . . . But I don’t think I’ll have the opportunity to wear it anytime soon after what you just did to it.”  He pointed to the crumpled-up, ripped shirt and scattered buttons on the floor and grinned wickedly.

“Alright, you win Drake . . . I seduced you tonight.  And I could tell you hated every minute of it!”  She leaned over to him to place playful peck on his lips, but was surprised to feel him cup his hand around the back of her head and hold her lips to his in a deep, slow kiss.  He placed one more gentle kiss on her lips as he released her and laid back on the pillow.  He stroked a tendril of hair off her face as he looked tenderly up at her.

“I can’t believe how much I love you, Warner.  You’re too good to be true.  This is too good to be true.”  He sighed and stared at her with a content look on his face.

“I love you too, Drake Walker.  And don’t you ever forget it.”  She gave his nose a quick pinch and another smooch, then eased herself out of the bed to stand.  She grabbed the throw blanket from the chaise in her room and swiftly draped it around her shoulders.

Emma sashayed into the bathroom and filled a glass with water under the faucet.  She studied herself in the mirror as she took a long sip.  Her face was flushed, mascara smudged under her eyes, hair rumpled and slightly matted on one side . . . Yet she couldn’t help but smile at herself in the mirror.  The look in her eyes was just so happy . . . She just felt so happy.  She downed the glass of water, set it down on the counter and attempted to straighten herself up a bit.

A few splashes of water on her face and a pat from the plush handtowel instantly revived her.  She wiped the smudged mascara from around her eyes, leaving her with a slightly sleepy but smoky-eyed look.  She slid a few swipes of lip gloss across her plump lips, puckered them and grinned back at the much-improved reflection in the mirror in front of her.  Now what to do about this hair?

Her mind wandered as she began to gently pull her brush through her long chestnut locks.  As she tugged the brush through a nest of knots, her body tingled as she remembered the sensation of Drake weaving his fingers in her hair and gripping it as he kissed her fiercely.   It had almost felt like he was holding on to claim her as his own, as if he never wanted to let her go.  I wonder if he’s always so possessive when he’s aroused, she pondered. Or was that something he was only compelled to do with her?  I wonder if he’s ever experienced chemistry as intoxicating and passionate as this before.  She paused a minute as her curiosity piqued . . . Who had Drake been with before he met her?

Emma finished smoothing her hair and took a final glance in the mirror before refilling the glass of water and turning back to the bedroom.  Drake was still in the same spot on her bed, laid out on his back with his eyes shut.  He stirred and turned to look at her as he heard her approach, perched on his elbow and patted the bed beside him for her to sit.  She handed him the water and brushed the dark hair from his brow as he took a long draw from the glass.  She tried to keep her cool despite her pensive mood.

“Penny for your thoughts, Warner?” Drake finished the glass of water and placed it on the nightstand behind him, before turning back to peer into her eyes.

She laughed nervously.  “Um . . . nothing really.  I . . . . I was just thinking a minute ago about how good this is . . . with us.”  She motioned her hand back and forth in the space between them.  “And I was thinking how practice makes perfect . . . It just got me wondering how much practice you’ve had . . . before me?”  She averted her eyes to the blanket around her, awkwardly picking at a loose thread to avoid his eye contact.  I can’t believe I just said that!

Drake released a slow exhale and leaned back against the pillow.  The room was completely silent for a few moments, before Emma heard a low chuckle.  She looked over to him, relieved to see him smiling as he turned back towards her.  “Are you asking me my number, Warner?”  He laughed again and shook his head slightly, but never broke her gaze.

“I know, it’s so silly!  It doesn’t really matter, but . . . I just can’t help but to be curious.”  She smiled at him, relieved that he hadn’t been annoyed at her inquiry.  “I just wonder who was lucky enough to love you before I found you.”

Drake’s face lit up at her confession.  “Well, for the record . . . No one ever got the chance to really LOVE me before.  Or at least, I never loved them.  Never until you.”  He traced his thumb across her cheek as she nuzzled her face against his palm.  He sighed as he dropped his hand.  “But as for the physical aspect . . . “ He looked down at his fingers as he slowly counted one by one.  “You would make . . . lucky number seven.”

“That’s it!?!?” She blurted out.  Drake raised his eyebrows at her questioningly.  “I just meant . . . you’re amazing.  This has been amazing.  Like, honestly, the most MIND-BLOWING SEX imaginable.”  And now he had a cocky grin on his face.  “Okay, don’t get a big head!  I just meant, I would have thought you’d been around . . . since it’s been so good.”  She couldn’t help but laugh as he wiggled his eyebrows at her as she finished her sentence.

Suddenly, Drake moved towards her, grabbing her wrists and pinning them over her head as he slid on top of her.  He pressed his lips to hers in an urgent, passionate kiss, only breaking their connection as they both struggled to catch their breath.  “Also for the record, “ he murmured, “this has definitely been the best sex of my life.  But I don’t think it has anything to do with practice or experience.  I think it’s because we were made to fit together, like two halves of a whole.”  He looked tenderly in her eyes as she blinked away a few happy tears.

“I think you’re right.  Two halves of a whole.”  She planted a soft kiss to his lips.  “That must be it.”

“One more thing, Warner.  Don’t ever tell me your number.”  He stared intently into her eyes.  “I hate to sound like a Neanderthal, but I don’t want to think of you with anyone else.  I’m just happy to know that however you got here, it was all meant to lead you here to me.”

“Deal, Walker.”  She met his intent stare and knew he was right.  This was where they were meant to be.

Drake bent over again and began trailing light kisses along her jawline and down her neck.  “Now, I think it’s time for another practice run . . .”

Emma sighed and gave in to his lips, relishing the feel as his hands slid down her body.  Practice does make perfect.
