Middle America’s Finest

Author’s Note:  I’ve been wanting to try my hand at writing Seth & Jessica ever since I read RCD, so thank you to @mrs-walker-Nazario-Levine for requesting this after our conversation the other day!  This is a fluffy fic request for the prompt #19 “I just want to take care of you.”

I had a lot of fun writing Seth for the first time and I hope I did his character justice because he is adorable.  I hope this little ficlet makes you smile today. 😘

“Seth!”  Jessica called out from the kitchen.  “What is this?!?!”  She walked out into the living room to find her boyfriend laid out on the couch working on his laptop.  She looked curiously at the object in her right hand, holding it out in front of her as if she was afraid it would bite her.  “Did you . . . did you pack me a lunchbox?”

“Hmm?”  Seth glanced up from his typing, slowly registering her question before a wide grin spread across his lips.  “Oh, yeah.  I just know how tired you are of all that Keto crap that Victoria insists on them catering in to set everyday.  So I thought I’d pack you some good comfort food to remind you of home when you get the craving.”  He set his laptop on the coffee table and came up behind her as she dumped the contents of the container out on the kitchen table.  He rested his chin on her shoulder and placed his hands on her hips as he observed her digging through the food.

“Okay, well let’s see what you packed me . . . Cool Ranch Doritos, applesauce, a Twinkie, a Coca Cola -“

“A real one.  With real sugar.”  Seth interjected proudly.

Jessica chuckled at his enthusiasm.  “And what’s this . . . a sandwich?  A bologna sandwich?”  She felt Seth’s lips curl up in a smug grin against her cheek as she started identifying the theme.  ”Seth, this is just like the lunches my mom used to pack for me in school!”  She turned to look at him over her shoulder, astonished at the careful thought he’d put into this little surprise.

“I know, Iowa.”  He murmured softly, placing a chaste kiss on her cheek and pulling her closer to his chest as he wrapped his arms around her waist.  “I know you’ve been stressed lately and working too much and missing home.  So I thought this would be a nice little piece of home to make you smile during all the craziness at work.”

“Oh Seth!”  She cooed as she pulled his arms tighter around her.  “This is probably the sweetest, most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me!”  She turned her head to press her lips against his, then looked back at the pile of Middle America’s finest school lunch items and grinned.  “I’m not sure my personal trainer will be proud of me for eating any of this, but I love it.  Thank you.”

No problem, Iowa. I just want to take care of you in any little way I can.”  He stepped forward and assisted her in re-packing the items inside the lunchbox before walking back to the couch.

As she zipped it up, Jessica glanced down at the decorated lunchbox.  “Umm, Babe . . . Why did you pack it in a He-Man lunchbox?”  She arched an eyebrow at him.

“Something to remind you of me.”  He had that goofy grin on his face that made him look like the adorable sexy man-child she’d fallen for.  ”Because He-Man is awesome and he’s the most underrated of all the super-heroes.”

Jessica shook her head and giggled. “Oh, you do have a thing for He-Man, don’t you?”  She leaned over him on the couch and gave him a quick good-bye kiss.  “Love you.  I’ll text you after work, okay?”  She grabbed her purse and the lunchbox and started walking out the door.

As she was closing the door behind her, Seth called out “Hey, just be careful with that lunchbox!  It’s a collector’s item!”
