Disclaimer- Not mine. I’m just borrowing them for a little while and will return them when I am finished.

Author’s Notes- This is another very late entry in the January Challenge. This is Day 27: Goodbye. Special thanks to CallMeTippyTumbles who told me to go at my own pace and not to push myself. I needed to hear that and I was rewarded with inspiration. This also fulfills a request for “a make-out session that can’t go any further”. This is set a few months after Eleanor and Liam get married.

Pairing- Liam/MC

Rating- PG-13

Summary- Eleanor and Liam prepare for their first separation as a married couple.

Words- 822

“Are you sure you don’t want me to accompany you to the airfield?” Liam asked, wrapping his arms around my waist and nuzzling the side of my neck.

“I’m sure,” I told him for the dozen time. I dropped the clothes I was packing and put my hand on his face. “There’s no reason to deal with two security teams and the extra added chaos.”

Liam sighed, conceding that I was right.

“Liam, I’ll be ok,” I told him, knowing that his concern was less about the fact that I was going to the airport alone, but that I was about to embark on my first solo trip as Queen. It was a trip to Shanghai, arranged by Hana, and she, and several other members of my court, would be accompanying me.

“I know,” Liam told me, but I could see the concern in his eyes.

I didn’t blame him. It had been a hard year, uncovering the plots against him and Cordonia and unmasking enemies he hadn’t even realized he had. We both knew our lives would never be completely safe, but we also couldn’t live in fear and we couldn’t stop living our lives.

“Besides, I’ll have both Hana and Olivia with me,” I reminded him, “you couldn’t ask for better protection than that.”

Liam laughed. “True, I’d trust them over any security detail.” He looked into my eyes. “I’m going to miss you.”

“I’ll miss you too,” I assured him, wrapping my arms around his neck and raising my lips to his.

Liam quickly deepened the kiss, moving his hands from my waist to run one through my hair. He maneuvered us onto the bed and pushed us down so I landed on my back with him on top of me, though I noticed he was careful not to knock over the open suitcase. Liam’s hands wandered under my top as he continued to kiss me, his knee parting my legs.

“Liam I have to leave in 10 minutes,” I gasped out as his lips moved to trail kisses down my neck.

“So?” He asked, his hands wandering up to tease my breasts through the lace of my bra.

I sighed into his touch. It felt so good and it made me realize how much I was going to miss him over the next ten days. How much I was going to miss this. Just as I was starting to wonder how much time we had, there was a sharp knock on the door.

“Your Majesty, the car will be here in a few minutes,” my assistant called through the door.

“I’ll be there in a moment,” I called back, hoping I didn’t sound to flustered. I pushed at Liam’s chest. “I need to go.”

He groaned, but complied, getting to his feet and then extending a hand to help me to mine. He pulled me against him for a moment, holding me close. “I’m going to miss you.”

“I’m going to miss you too,” I told him, breathing in the scent and feel of him, this was going to be our first major separation since our marriage and I don’t think either of was really prepared.

We stayed there for a moment, just holding each other and then Liam sighed. “You should probably get going.”

“Yes,” I agreed, moving out of his arms and closing my suitcase.

“I’ll walk you downstairs,” Liam offered, taking my suitcase. We could have sent someone up to fetch it, but if he wanted to carry it, I’d let him. We both liked doing little things for each other, things that let us pretend that we were a normal couple.

We exited our suite and headed down to the main doors of the palace. Olivia and Hana were already there, waiting for me.

“There you are,” Olivia said impatiently, “it took you long enough.”

I just laughed. “Sorry, about that.”

“It was my fault,” Liam said smoothly, handing my suitcase over to one of the servants to put in the ar.

Olivia rolled her eyes. “I bet.” But there was no malice to her words.  “Anyway, now that you’ve finally dragged yourself away from one another, let’s get going.” With that, she turned and exited.

“We’ll be in the car,” Hana told me before hurrying to follow after Olivia.

“Be safe,” Liam bade me, before leaning down and giving me a chaste kiss.

I wanted to deepen it, but it wasn’t the place and we didn’t have the time. “I will,” I promised him, “and I’ll back before you know it.”

“Good,” Liam told me, tenderly running his hand over my cheek, “I love you.”

“I love you too,” I assured him and then sighed and straightened.

I took one last look at my husband and then headed towards the door, ten days suddenly feeling like an eternity. I just reminded himself that while parting sucked, reuniting was going to feel so good.
