It’s a dream and Liam knows it.

Because she’s there and she looks radiant in a white dress as she glides down the aisle, eyes only for him.

He knows this is only possible in his dreams because reality would never be so kind to him.

A vision in white, she represents everything he’s ever wanted, all his hopes and dreams and desires he never knew he had. And everything he could have. To have her love him the way he wants, the way he so ardently desires is something he will never see when his eyes are open. When he lays down to rest, everything falls away and this is the only time he could be with her. In his mind he sees everything they could be. Lovers, spouses, a home and a family they would never have together. It is too good to be true, that’s why Liam knows its not real.

Loathe to hear the sound of birds heralding the morning, he remains futilely stubborn, trying to prolong the fantasy as long as he can but fate is cruel and even kings must bend to her twisted hands.

It’s not a dream and Liam knows it.

Because she’s there and she looks radiant in a white dress as she glides down the aisle, eyes only for… his best friend.

He knows this will never be possible in reality because only his dreams could be so kind to him.

And she looks even more beautiful than he could ever imagine, with her eyes shining brighter than the sun rays streaming through the stained glass windows of the cathedral. A vision in white, she represents everything he’s ever wanted, all the hopes and dreams and desires he never knew he had. And everything he will never have. This is everything his best friend could have ever asked for and everything he will always have from now on. She will love him in the way he wants, the way he so ardently desires and it’s something he will see even when his eyes aren’t open. When they lay down to rest, everything will fall away and they will have all the time in the world to be lovers, spouses, a home and family, they will have all that together. Its the harsh reality, that’s why Liam knows it’s real.

Loathe to heard the words that will cement their fates, he fights against himself to resist ruining her happily ever after. He could do it, interrupt the celebrant and speak his mind, tell her he loved her first and he was never going to stop but he doesn’t. Her bright brown eyes shine with tears like his blue ones do but their purpose is entirely different.

As she speaks the words binding her to another for life, he takes a deep breath and closes his eyes to hide the pain. She’ll never know the words he longs to say because fate is cruel and even kings must bend to her twisted hands.
