Unspoken

Author’s Note:  Here’s a little headcanon drabble for Liam and Olivia I’ve had in mind for a while now.  This fits the day 7 prompt ‘Future’ for the @Choices-september-challenge and also fulfills a very old request from @debramcg1106 for Oliam “Being stuck at their house during a blizzard”.

I personally love seeing this side of Olivia with Liam and I hope you do too.  Happy reading! 💕📖📚

“So do you want the good news or the bad news first?” Liam asked lightheartedly as he sauntered back into the parlor, looking down at the screen of his phone curiously.  He clicked the phone off and gazed up at his new wife draped across the chaise beside the window.  The dim blue light from outside cast an eerie glow across Olivia’s features as she looked away from the book she was reading.

She smirked at her husband, raising an eyebrow in question and watching him carefully as he strolled over to sit at the foot of her lounger.  “Well, when you phrase it that way … how about the bad news first.”  She scooted up and leaned her back against the plush pillows behind her, resting her book on her lap as she waited patiently for Liam to continue.

“The bad news is that this blizzard has all the roads blocked and the snow is falling too thick to get a plane or a helicopter up here.  So it appears that we’re stuck in Lythikos until at least tomorrow afternoon.”  His expression was stern, but he couldn’t resist the tug of a smile tickling the corners of his mouth.  He very well knew that this news would not disappoint her.

“And this is bad because … why?”  Olivia’s face brightened incredulously.  “You know I always love spending time back here.”

“It is bad, my dear …” Liam drifted forward and slid his hand up Olivia’s leg to rest at her waist, pressing his nose into the crook of her neck and inhaling her fragrance deeply- “because you are going to have to put up with me alone for another day.”  He nuzzled behind her ear, nipping the sensitive flesh playfully.

“Mmmm … that is very disappointing.”  Olivia played along, fighting back the urge to moan as Liam teased her.  “And what is the good news, Your Majesty?”

Liam leaned back and gazed into her emerald eyes, his own blue orbs dark with desire.  “The good news, my Queen, is that I’m about to make it up to you.”  He emitted a deep growl from the back of his throat, chomping at the air, before pouncing on his giggling wife.

Olivia lay sprawled across the bed, resting her cheek on Liam’s chest and staring at the flames dancing in the fireplace.  He traced tiny erratic patterns across the skin of her back as he laid with his eyes closed, savoring this quiet moment alone.  The gentle thump-thump noise of his heartbeat and the feel of his warm skin against her own had a strange way of calming Olivia and eliciting a sentimental thought pattern that she most often tried to avoid.  And this afternoon’s activities had provoked one thought in her mind that had been plaguing her for some time, something she hadn’t dared speak out loud to her husband yet.

“Liam …” she whispered softly, perching up on one elbow to peer down at him.

“Hmm?” He acknowledged her lackadaisically, although he didn’t move or open his eyes.

“I was just thinking …” she started, her usually strong voice much more demure than normal.  “We’ve been married for almost six months now …”

“Yes …” Liam responded, finally opening his eyes to look at her quizzically.

“And in that time, we still haven’t managed to …” she paused hesitantly, searching for her next words carefully, “… to conceive yet.  What if there’s something wrong with me?” There.  There it was.  She had said it out loud.

Liam turned to his side and gazed over at this wife with a concerned look.  He ran his thumb across her cheek gently, then nudged her chin upwards to meet his eyes.  “Liv … Liv, there’s nothing wrong with you.  Six months is not that long.”  She nodded at him, but her expression told him that she wasn’t convinced.  “Besides, you were on the pill until we married, and I’ve heard it takes a while for your body to adjust.  We have to be patient and trust that it will happen when the time is right.” Olivia looked away, nodding again but her face plagued with guilt.  “What?  What is it Liv?” He demanded softly.

Olivia shook her head, unable to meet his eyes.  “What if I can’t get pregnant because the gods knows I’ll be a horrible mother?”  She finally turned her head to him, exposing the vulnerability and fear in her face as a few stray tears dropped down her cheeks.  “I never have been the maternal type, you know that!  And I didn’t give much thought to children until … until you.”  She wiped the dampness from under her eyes, sniffling while she tried to pull herself back together.  “Liam, I never even thought I would have the chance to have children until we got together.  And you’re the king … if I can’t bear your children, then I’ve failed you as a wife.”

Liam’s heart ached as he studied his normally fierce wife’s face twisted in turmoil.  He gripped her by the chin, tilting her head to look at him.  His expression was solemn, yet heartfelt, when he finally spoke.  “Olivia Nevrakis, you will never fail me as a wife.  Not as long as you stay just as you are.  And you will make a wonderful mother someday … in nine months or in five years.”  Olivia scoffed at his last statement, shaking her head in disagreement.  “You will, Liv … trust me.  If we have a boy, do you really think I’m going to be the one teaching him self-defense?”  Olivia chuckled, shaking her head no.  “And if it’s a girl … well, who better to teach her how to be a strong, independent woman than the strongest woman I know?”   A sentimental half-smile creeped up to his lips, his eyes dancing in the reflection of the firelight when Olivia finally shifted her head to meet his stare.  ”You may not be the stereotypical mother figure, but that doesn’t mean you will be any less wonderful in your own way.”

Olvia’s eyes sparkled in astonishment as she beamed over to her husband, cupping her palm against his cheek.  “How do you do that?” She whispered, her tone filled with amazement.  “How do you take all the things I worry about and turn them into something beautiful?”

Liam grinned slyly, raising his hand to press against hers resting on his cheek.  “Because I know you and I love the things about you that make you who you are.”

Olivia didn’t respond, she didn’t need to as she leaned forward to place a soft kiss to his lips, telling him everything he needed to know.  Thank you.  I love you.  My heart is yours forever.

When they finally separated, pressing their foreheads together, Liam’s mouth turned up to a naughty smirk.  “So do you want the good news or the good news?”

Olivia giggled, giving him a quick peck again before leaning back to peer into to his eyes.  “How about both?”

Liam gently pushed her shoulders back to rest on the sheets, positioning himself above her as he placed gentle, loving kisses along her collarbone.  “The good news is that I know where babies come from and I was planning to demonstrate on you.  And the other good news is we still have at least 16 more hours here, and I plan to spend them all right here in this room with you.”  Olivia chuckled quietly when his mouth finally met hers again, but the sounds of laughter slowly faded away as she let her body tell him all the things she couldn’t say out loud.
