Post-Victory Phone Call

Summary: On the day of the Hartfeld Knights’ championship victory, Zig and Emily catch up over the phone.

Author’s note: This was written for Zigmund Ortega Appreciation Week.

Emily smiled as she picked up her phone. “Zig! I’m so glad you called. I’ve been thinking about you all day.”

“Oh, really? Tell me more.”

“I was thinking how lucky I am to have such an amazing, talented boyfriend. I saw the game, and you did such a great job. I was so excited when you scored that touchdown! My eyes were on you the whole time you were on the field. And of course I noticed how nice your butt looks in that football uniform.”

Zig chuckled. “Is that what you were looking at?”

“Well, how could I not notice? And it’s been too long since I got to look at it. I miss you.”

“I miss you too. I wish you could have been here to celebrate our win with us. It would have been even more fun.”

“We’ll have to have our own celebration when you get back. I’m sure everyone will want to have another party. And of course, the two of us will have to celebrate privately.” She grinned, thinking of how much fun that would be.

“Of course. But we’re not just celebrating the team’s win. We have to celebrate your award too. I’m really proud of you. You’re such an accomplished writer.”

She blushed. “Thank you. With everything else going on…James’ graduation, Kaitlyn’s band making it to the next round of the Battle of the Bands…I haven’t really focused on that.”

“You should. Your accomplishments matter just as much.”

“Thanks. I guess I should give myself more credit. I’m so used to looking out for everyone else.”

“I’ll just have to keep reminding you how special you are, then.”

“You’re the best. I love you, Zig.”

“I love you too.”
