One of Those Nights

Author’s note: I missed these dorks and actually wanted to write something cute but then my fluff fanfic turned into this kinda angsty and steamy piece lol.

Song: Hesitate – Jonas Brothers

There were nights that Julia Vance simply couldn’t fall asleep. Her mind wouldn’t just shut down, as much tired as she was.

That was one of those nights.

With a resentful sigh, she got out of the bed and tiptoed out of the room, careful to not make any noise.

She had long gone given up on trying to fall asleep on those kind of nights. Better do something more useful than staring at the ceiling, counting down the hours left for her to sleep.

Julia made herself a cup of tea and sat by the window, watching the storm outside. The lightning would light up the dark sky occasionally and there was no sound besides the pouring rain and the ticking clock on the wall, reminding her of the time passing slowly and unstoppably.

She had always suffered from insomnia, since she could remember as a little kid. But it had worsened considerably after her parents’ deaths. Sometimes it felt like all the blood had stained and scarred her brain forever, the numbness as she watched in horror their dilacerated corpses taking over her body, overwhelming her senses. Reminding her of what happened.

She gripped the mug, her knuckles turning white, as she reminded of Suttcliffe’s disgusting and pathetic face, his maniacal laughter as he confessed her that he was the one who murdered them. At least she had dealt with it. Julia knew she probably should feel bad for what she did – especially for poor Robbie -, but she didn’t. There wasn’t a single trace of remorse in her. He got what he deserved.

…Then why she couldn’t fall asleep properly since then?

Her angry scowl slowly turned into a sad frown. She missed them like hell. Especially Mom.

It had been years already since all that happened, but it didn’t mean that the grief got easier to deal with. It just got more manageable. But there were nights that it would go worse and would feel like she was hit by a wave of mourning.

That was one of those nights.

Julia had just put the washed mug away when she sensed someone approaching. Since all that hell happened in Pine Springs, her brain developed a sensitive skill, her instincts promptly readying her to fight, her body tensing up and her heartbeat speeding up, even when she wasn’t in danger.

She looked up at the door, seeing Tom standing there, rubbing his half shut eyes, his hair a complete mess.

“Can’t sleep?” – he murmured after a long yawn. A small smile tugged on her lips and she felt her body relaxing instantly by the sight of her boyfriend. He always had that calming effect over her.

“Yeah. Just one of those nights.” – she said back as he dragged his feet towards her and put his arms around her petite figure, and she immediately felt safe. His warmth was a nice contrast with the lower temperature of the apartment.

“Stupid question: are you feeling okay?” – he asked, his cheek resting on the top of her head.

“I’ve had better nights. But it turned way better now that you’re here.”

“You’re so cheesy.” – he smirked. – “Tomoichi Sato is so powerful his apparition can instantly heal people’s hearts.” – Julia chuckled in his arms.

“And you’re so dorky.” – he wasn’t wrong, though. – “I’m sorry if I woke you up.”

“You didn’t. Well, kinda. I just felt that something was off when I turned around on the bed and didn’t find you there. The mattress was cold and empty on your side.” – she felt his arms tightening around her waist and they stayed hugged for a few minutes in complete silence, just enjoying the moment; Tom’s heart beating slowly and rhythmically. – “Hey, let’s go to bed? It’s chilly.”

“Will you sing me to sleep?” – she watched a sleepy grin spreading on his face.

“Whatever you need to go to sleep, Pixie.” – he said, his hand stroking her cheek softly. Tom saw the flash of a smile on her face, but then she burst into tears. – “Hey, hey. It’s okay…” – he instantly felt a bit alarmed by the sight of his crying girlfriend. Man, he hated when she cried. He always felt so powerless.

He led Julia to the couch.

“Tom… I have something to tell you.” – she murmured.

“Uh-oh. Am I in trouble? Oh my god, are you breaking up with me? Oh no, are you pregnant?!” – he yelled, his anxiousness interrupting her.

“No! It’s nothing like this! It’s nothing with you; it’s with me!”

“You know that this is exactly what people say when they’re going to break up with someone?” – Julia giggled, amused by his overreaction. She loved that dork so much.

“You always find a way to put me at ease.” – Tom smiled down at his girlfriend, feeling much calmer, and put a strand of her hair behind her ear.

“You know you can tell me anything, right, Pixie?” – she nodded to him, her smile suddenly replaced by a frown, and nervously started fidgeting with her hands.

“I… so you know… after our first time together… at my grandpa’s cabin…” – he nodded, his face flushing slightly, as she took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. – “…remember they fished Richard Suttcliffe’s corpse out of the lake, right?”

“Yeah, there were a bunch of those freak cultists bodies in there… it took like a whole week. Josephine made a big mess—”

“About that. It wasn’t Josephine who killed him.” – Julia felt her breath growing ragged. Tom frowned in confusion. – “There’s something I’ve never told you… I—” – her heart was thumping inside her chest. – “I was the one who killed him.”

“What…?”

“I killed Richard Suttcliffe.”

Julia told her boyfriend everything that happened that night: how Dick put her inside a coffin and threw it into the lake, how she miraculously freed herself from it and came back to end him. After long endless minutes in silence, just staring back at her, Tom finally let out a heavy breath.

“Wow. Uh, does anyone else know this?” – she shook her head.

“You’re the first person to know this. I can’t bring myself to tell anyone else. Not even Elliot. And surely I can’t tell Robbie. I just am not able to bring myself to do it, even though I know I should—” – Tom squeezed her shoulders, looking deeply into her eyes.

“I think it’s best if no one else knows this.” – her eyes filled with tears again.

“And the worst part is… I don’t regret it at all. I’ve never regretted it. But it was eating me alive not telling it to anyone. Not telling it to you.”

“Why did you keep it to yourself for so long, pixie?”

“Because I was scared. I didn’t want you to think I’m a monster or… if you start hating me…”

“I don’t think you’re a monster, Julia. And of course I don’t hate you. Especially after everything those guys did to us. To Josephine. I would never hate you. And, first of all, you were defending yourself. Dude almost killed you. And he murdered your parents. I would have done the same thing.”

“You wouldn’t. You would had left him drown in the lake. But I didn’t. I just… I just kept hitting him.” – she hid her face behind her shaky hands, flashbacks of that day flying back into her mind. – “I was so blinded by the anger… he was dead the second I hit him with the extinguisher. I heard his neck snapping. But… I just kept hitting him with it. I was so mad… at first, I felt great. Justice had been done. Like, I had avenged my parents’ deaths. But then… I don’t know. It hit me. I think I might have disappointed them. This isn’t how you solve things.”

“They would never be disappointed on you.” – he gently pulled her hands away from her face, and Julia saw Tom’s smile. That sheepish smile that would remind her that everything was okay. – “I know they’re both proud of you and Elliot. Like your grandpa is. Like I am.”

He leaned to kiss her, Julia promptly closing her eyes, savouring the taste of his soft and tender lips.

When Tom leaned out, his cheeks were a shade pinker and their breaths ragged.

“Uh… I… I really want to take you back to bed now.” – she chuckled softly.

“Oh? To sleep?”

“This too… but not only for this.” – he confessed, averting her eyes, and blushing harder. He smiled to the sound of her laughter.

“You’re so adorable. We’ve been together for over three years now and you still act like this. You could simply say ‘you. Me. On bed. Fucking.’ and I’d instantly materialize there.”

He giggled sheepishly as she pulled him toward the bedroom.

They had just reached the bed when, with one single move, Julia pulled her own T-shirt over her head, tossing it on the floor, a smirk on her lips. Tom mimicked her movements and, as pulled his tee out too, his girlfriend pushed him down to the mattress, her petite body covering his. He groaned as he felt her breasts against his bare chest, her lips sucking the smooth skin of his neck.

“You stay right there…” – she ordered before pulling out and teasingly discarding the rest of her clothes, Tom’s eyes appreciating the naked form of his girlfriend in front of him.

He sat up and shyly brought her body closer again, and Julia shivered slightly under his touch as his hands ran up from her hips to her sides and to her breasts.

“You’re incredible.” – he whispered. She climbed on top of him and he laid down again.

“I know.” – she smirked, bending over him, before kissing his neck. He chuckled.

“And so not cocky.” – he completed as they both freed him from his pants and underwear.

“Yeah, but you clearly likes it.” – she stated, seeing her boyfriend’s exposed eagerness. Tom blushed.

“Jeez, you’re so cheesy—” – he sucked in a breath as her hands took hold of him, his breath growing heavier with her movements.

His lips found hers, desperate and demanding, muffling his whimpering. She gasped when one of his hands found that sweet spot of hers, his fingers swirling over, sending waves of pleasure from her head to toes.

When the young couple couldn’t hold it anymore, they hurriedly put a protection, and they both couldn’t hold back a moan from escaping their lips as she lowered herself onto him. The way Julia moved her hips was maddening, rocking against him.

“Oh god…” – Tom whimpered, his hands gripping her soft tights. – “It feels so good…”

“Tom…” – she kissed his exposed neck and collarbone, her hands on his shoulders to steady herself.

Then, his hips started bucking under her, wilder and wilder, her back arching as his blunt nails raked down her back, sending shivers throughout her body, the sound of their moans and whimpers muffled by the noise of the rain outside, both of them seeing lights through their eyelids as pleasure grew inside of both of them, threatening to burst. With ragged breaths and their hands exploring, pulling, touching, leaving impressions on each other’s bodies, that wave of ecstasy grew until it was too much to handle and they both came down, his arms circling tightly around her waist as she tightened around him, her face buried in his neck, a long moan escaping her lips as Tom chanted her name like a prayer.

Later, both of them lied down onto their bed, her back turned to him. A lazy smile spread through her face, his fingertips idly tracing the red marks of scratches he left on the smooth skin of her back. He suddenly kissed the sensitive spot behind her ear, making her squeal in surprise, and whispered:

“I’m hungry.” – Julia laughed loudly and turned to him, bringing her body closer to his, instantly feeling warmed by her boyfriend’s heat as his arm circled around her tightly.

“Sorry, but you aren’t going anywhere. You’re so warm…”

“Dammit. Guess I’ll starve to death then.” – she giggled to his silly joke, cupping his face between her hands.

“I love you, Tomo. Thank you for not backing away. After my… revelation, I mean.”

“I would never. Thank you for telling me that, pixie. I know it wasn’t easy. I’ll always be here for you.” – Julia felt the tears welling up to her eyes and kissed him tenderly. – “Uh, you know… there’s something that I’ve been meaning to tell you too.”

She raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

“Oh yeah? What?”

The words came out of Tom Sato’s mouth in a rush:

“…I-want-you-to-meet-my-parents.”

He stared at his girlfriend back, expectantly, his face all flushed and his heart beating hard in anticipation inside his chest.

All Julia could do was just blink a few times, letting those words slowly sink in.

What…?

What?

WHAT?!
