Disclaimer- Not mine. I don’t own them, I’m just borrowing them for a while and will return them when I am done.

Author’s Notes- This is one of those fics that started out as a joke. I was talking about how if you read one of my Vega fics, you know you’re getting into dark and angsty because he doesn’t exactly lend himself to fluff and then I started thinking about Vega fluff. This is set in the universe of “A Dangerous Game” (there is a time jump coming, this is set during that period) because that was the only setting I could think of for fluffy Vega.

Rating- PG

Pairing- Adam Vega/MC

Summary- Lilith finds a kitten. The only problem? Kittens and vampires don’t mix.

Words- 982

“I’ve got those,” Bobby, my bodyguard, said, lifting my shopping bags out of the car for me.

I nodded, though I was still adjusting to the fact that I had a bodyguard and people willing to do pretty much everything for me. A few months ago, I’d barely been able to pay my rent and now, here I was.

I headed towards the house and then paused. “Did you hear that?”

Silly question, if I’d heard it, then of course he had.

He shrugged. “Sounded like a cat, a young one I’d guess.”

I stilled. “Where?”

He nodded his head to the corner of the driveway and some bushes.

“Mrs. Vega, wait!” He called out as I immediately sprinted in that direction. “What are you doing?”

“Checking on the cat,” I told him in exasperation, what did he think I was doing. “Are you going to help me?”

“That’s not a good idea,” he told me, even though he followed me to where the sound was coming from.

I knelt on the grass, unconcerned about my dress, and leaned in. It was dark but I was able to spot the terrified little bundle of fluff. It was just a kitten.

I reached it and carefully picked it up, cradling it close to my chest as I stood up.

“The boss ain’t gonna like this,” Bobby commented as we walked toward the house.

“It’s a kitten, not a wolf,” I said dismissively, “why would Adam object?”

Bobby was silent but he gave the kitten a wary look and I noticed he kept more distance than he normally did. Was I missing something? Was this cat about to transform into a demon? Though you’d think if that was the case, my bodyguard would be more concerned with guarding me.

“Can you get me a bowl of water and send someone to get me supplies?” I asked Bobby as we entered the house.

“Sure thing ma’am,” he answered and then disappeared down a hallway.

I took a seat on the couch, the kitten cradled against me. It was an adorable bundle of black fluff. I wondered how it had ended up on our lawn, but I was just glad that I’d heard it.

“Lilith?”

I looked up as Isabella wandered in.

To my surprise, the kitten immediately started snarling, it’s little body practically vibrating.

I saw Isabella raise an eyebrow. “I see you’ve acquired a pet.”

I hadn’t been thinking in terms of long-term yet, but with the subject raised, I realized I liked the sound of that. “Yes,” I agreed, “though she was a lot calmer a moment ago.”

“Most animals react that way to us,” Isabella told me with a shrug, “I was going to ask if you wanted to join me for a drink, but I see you are occupied.”

She slipped out of the room as quickly as she’d entered and the kitten immediately calmed down. That must have been what Bobby had meant.

Huh. That was a problem, given how many vampires there were in the house. I guess I should look for a home for the kitten then. The thought made me unexpectedly sad, which was bizarre given I had literally just found this kitten.

I continued to sit there, the kitten on my chest, considering my options. Bobby returned, keeping his distance, letting me know that the supplies would be there soon. I nodded and dismissed him, enjoying my time alone on the couch with the kitten. My kitten.

That was how Adam found me a while later.

As soon as he stepped close, the kitten woke up and immediately started hissing.

“Shhh…” I soothed, stroking it’s fur, trying not to wince at the pricks of the claws. “Can you step back?” I asked Adam.

He raised an eyebrow but did as I requested. “What is that?”

“It’s my new kitten,” I told him, “I found her outside. She’s been abandoned, I think.”

Your kitten?” Adam repeated, ignoring the rest of what I’d said.

“Yes,” I answered confidently. I’d made up my mind. I wanted this kitten. She was cute, she needed a home and I needed something normal.

“Cats and vampires aren’t a good mix,” Adam told me and as if to confirm his point, the kitten let a little hiss. “I’m not sure she’d be happy here.”

“She likes me,” I told him, petting the kitten in demonstration. She purred and snuggled closer. “I can be the one that takes care of her.”

Adam looked at me and then at the kitten and back to me. “It means that much to you?”

“It does,” I told him, “I was never allowed to have a cat growing up, Julian’s allergic, and when I saw her out there… She’s so little and alone Adam and I just… I want to keep her.”

Adam was silent for a long moment, obviously assessing the situation. “She doesn’t go in the bedroom,” he said finally, “I don’t want her decided to attack me in the middle of the night.”

That was a yes!

I jumped from the couch, the kitten still in my arms and threw my free arm around Adam enthusiastically. The kitten started hissing at the close contact and Adam stiffened, but I ignored them both.

“It’s ok,” I soothed the kitten and then I pressed my lips against Adam’s, “thank you, darling.”

In the month we had been married Adam had spoiled me. I had beautiful clothes and jewels, he took me out to fancy meals, I lived in a mansion, and yet none of that meant as much as the simple act of him letting me keep this kitten.

“That smile is worth it,” he told me, though I noticed he stepped back, giving the kitten a wary look, “but I meant what I said about the bedroom.”

  1. OMG I was waiting to get to the infamous kitten fic and this didn’t disappoint! I dig fluffy Vega, he’s so weak for Lilith 💕

    1. I’m glad you liked it! And yes, this is when Vega starts to get fluffy. Shadow will play an important role in Act II. And she also secretely runs the show at Casa Vega.
