Author’s Notes- This was requested by my dear friend choicesarehard who just asked me not to kill anyone. She wanted a fic for the 5th Day of the July Challenge/Logan day for RODAW and an idea popped into my head immediately. This is a sequel to “When I Hear Your Name” and there will be one more part.
Pairing- Logan/MC
Rating- PG-13
Summary- Lucy does her best to move on, to forget Logan, but she doesn’t know how to forget about him.

Moving on was easier in theory than in practice, at least for Lucy.

In many ways, her first months at Langston were wonderful. She enjoyed her classes, she made friends and enjoyed her newfound independence. It was everything she had always dreamed it would be.

But it didn’t fix her broken heart.

It didn’t stop her from waking up and reaching for Logan only to find an empty bed or re-reading every text he had ever sent her late at night when she couldn’t sleep. It didn’t stop her from thinking she saw him everywhere she went.

There was a guy at the coffee shop who had his hair, another in her history class who sounded just like him. She thought she saw him one day when she was walking back from the library and another time when she was at the movies, but she knew it was just her mind playing tricks.

Logan was gone. She had no idea where he had gone, just that she would never see him again. She told herself it was for the best, that it had been the only way their story could end, after all good girl and bad boy falling in love was destined for a tragic ending and yet… A part of her wondered if she would ever get over him.

Her friends encouraged her to date. They didn’t know the whole story, of course, just she had broken up with her boyfriend before coming to Langston. It seemed so simple when she put it that way, so innocent, but also so trivial. And yet, how could she ever tell the whole story and explain what she and Logan meant to each other?

“You can’t hold on to your first love forever,’ her friend Katie tells her as she pushes her to accept a date, “you are eighteen, Lucy, you have you’re whole life ahead of you. And what’s the harm in one date? Even if this guy isn’t the one, at least you made the step towards moving on.”

It seemed simple when Katie put it that way, especially when her other friends all echoed their agreement, so Lucy agreed to the date, pushing aside the feeling in her gut that she making a mistake. It wouldn’t be the first time.

The guy, Jack, is nice. He’s cute and sweet. They go to a movie and Lucy has a good time. Good enough that for a few hours she doesn’t think about Logan or about the gang or life in California, she just lets herself focus on the now.

It feels nice.

Jack walks her back to her dorm and he leans in to kiss her, but as he does, Lucy catches something out of the corner of her eye and freezes. “Logan!” The name slips out of its own volition and Jack steps back, obviously stung.

Lucy is cursing herself for letting her imagination ruin everything, but then she realizes that this time she’s not imagining it. Logan is here, right in front of her.

“This is a mistake,” he says, turning to leave.

“Logan!” She calls again, pushing past Jack, no longer even seeing him, “Wait!”

He stops and she catches up to him. She is silent for a moment, drinking in every detail of his appearance, taking in the minor changes. WIthout knowing what she is doing, she steps closer, reaching for him.

He hesitates and then wraps his arms around her. The tears come unbidden as Lucy buries her head in his chest, taking in the scent of him. “You’re really here,” she cries, not caring that there are people around or that her date has walked off, probably quite annoyed. All she cares about is Logan.

“I couldn’t stay away,” he tells her, “I know it’s a bad idea, that I needed to let you go, let you have a normal life, but… I just needed to see you. I found myself driving here.  I told myself I would make sure you were ok and then go.”

Fear rushes through her. “No!”

“Lucy…” He says softly, but he’s still holding her.

“Please don’t go,” she begs, “I can’t watch you walk away again.”

Logan hesitates again.

“At least stay tonight,” Lucy tells him, “We can go somewhere, be together… Please?”

“I shouldn’t…” He tells her, but she knows that’s not a no.

Maybe his coming here was a mistake, maybe it was going to undo all the work of the last few months and she was just going to get her heart broken again, but she didn’t’ care. He was here and just the sight of him, the way her heart had raced, had shown her that she didn’t want to move on.

All she wanted was Logan, now she just had to convince him of that.
