I gazed into Flynn’s eyes, momentarily forgetting where we were and what was at stake. I’m not sure which one of us moved first, but we came together, our lips meeting in a kiss that started out gentle and then quickly grew more heated.

Our bodies were pressed close together in the small space and I reached up to run my hands through his hair as we continued to kiss. Flynn bit my lip and it was all I could do not to moan, pushing myself closer to him. I couldn’t remember the last time something had felt so good.

I don’t know how long it was before we finally pulled away, both of us gasping for air. When we did, I heard the sound of footsteps in the distance, moving away from us.

“The guard’s gone,” Flynn told me, sounding slightly flustered. “We should…”

“Yeah,” I agreed, as we got up, blushing slightly, I couldn’t believe I had just done that. I barely knew the man and we were searching for information, not…

“Not that that wasn’t nice,” Flynn continued, “Just, probably not the time or place.”

“No,” I agreed, Kate was missing, it wasn’t the time for me to be making out with her brother and yet, it had felt so very, very good.

“But I wouldn’t mind continuing it later,” he told me, reaching out to brush my hair out of my eyes. “In a better setting.” There was something very vulnerable his expression as he looked at me, almost as if he’d expected rejection.

“I’m going to hold you to it,” I told him with a smile and then sighed. “I guess we should…”

“Yeah,” he agreed, but there were lingering traces of a smile.

The two of us hurried towards the Ulysses, sneaking tiny glances at each other as we did. As tense as the situation was, as worried as I knew we both were about Kate, there was this newfound giddiness lingering in the air between us, the idea that this might possibly be something.

At least there was until we were confronted with the sight of Tanner Sterling’s dead body.
