“Is it daytime in general or just straight sunlight that’s the problem?” I asked curiously, my head on Adrian’s chest.
“The sun,” he answered, “why?”
I nodded to the covered window and the sound hitting the glass. “It’s raining.”
“Yes, it is,” Adrian agreed, “quite heavily, I imagine, from the sound.”
“And that means there’s probably no sun,” I pointed out, pulling out of his embrace and getting out of bed and hurriedly getting dressed. “Come on!”
“Where are we going?” Adrian asked, though he quickly got dressed as well.
“We’re going outside!” I told him, taking his hand and practically tugging him towards the door. Since I’m human and he’s a vampire with super strength, we both knew I couldn’t make him go anywhere he didn’t want too.
“It’s pouring rain,” Adrian said mildly even as we got into the elevator.
“Which means there’s no sun,” I pointed out and then grinned, “you’re a vampire, surely a little rain won’t bother you.”
“No, but it can be unpleasant,” Adrian commented, “And you’re human, you can catch cold.”
“Not in August,” I assured him with a laugh. “I love the rain.”
Adrian’s expression softened. “Do you?”
I nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah. When I was a kid I always begged my mom to let me go outside in the storms.” We got off the elevator and I was practically bouncing as we headed to the door that led us outside.
The sky was ominously dark, no sun to be seen and the rain was pouring down. The streets were practically empty, most normal people having taken shelter inside, but I wasn’t most people.
I step onto the sidewalk, letting the rain soak me, tossing my head back as it did. It felt good, natural, and it was something I could share with Adrian during the day. I held out my hands, beckoning him to join me and after a second, and a slight sigh, he did so.
“You are ridiculous, you know that,” he commented with a laugh as he wrapped his arms around me.
“I’m happy,” I told him, “aren’t you?”
He looked at me carefully, as if he was soaking up every detail. “Yes,” he said slowly, “I suppose I am, thanks to you.”
I wiggled out of his embrace and twirled in the rain. I’m sure if people could see me, they’d wonder what on Earth I was thinking, but I didn’t care. It just felt good.
Adrian watched me, his expression full of fond amusement, and after a moment he drew me back to him, pressing me against his chest, which was now soaked. Both of us. “You are extraordinary,” he told me, gazing down at me, “I’ve never met anyone like you before.”
“I hope that’s a good thing,” I teased.
“Very,” he assured me and then he lowered his lips to mine. I kissed him back eagerly.
The kiss grew deeper, neither of us caring that we could be seen. As Adrian kissed me passionately and the rain poured down around us, I wasn’t sure I’d ever been more content in my life.
I knew that most people avoided the rain, just like most people would run away from vampires, but… I wasn’t most people and there was no else I wanted to be than standing in the rain with this man.
It as perfect.

This was so good. I loved it
