“why must you get a tattoo whilst i’m trying to sleep???”

summary: in which soulmates can feel each other’s pain
a/n: okay so this is soulmate au, high school au and (kind of) enemies to lovers au all in one fic  also because lately there was a lot of drama related to jake’s sexuality i decided to use male mc since jake obviously is bisexual, thanks bye!

“Damn, Ashton. You look like crap.” Diego said as he spotted Ashton in the hallway by his locker.

“And I feel like one,” Ashton confessed. “I feel like I could fall asleep literally anywhere.” He groaned and leaned his forehead against the locker.

“Did you read all night, again?” Diego sighed.

“I wish. I was actually tired and I was in bed before eleven but my fucking soulmate decided to get a tattoo around three in the morning! Can you believe that? I just wanted to get some sleep but no! they just had to wake me up by getting a tattoo only a few hours before school! When I’ll finally meet them I’ll kick them in the ass I swear to god.”

“That sucks. Did you… I don’t know do something about it? You know get some kind of revenge?” Diego asked as Ashton was searching for his biology book.

“Of course! I figured they’d be pretty tired in the morning so I literally threw myself out of my bed in the hope that they will wake up.” Ashton smiled at the memory.

Sometimes Ashton thought that some force bonded him and his soulmate only to made his life more miserable. His soulmate – whoever they are – seemed to always find a new way to get on his nerves and he wanted to already just meet them and never meet them at the same time. He didn’t want to meet him or her because he really really didn’t want to fall in love with someone this annoying. Why his soulmate couldn’t be as nice and kind like Diego’s? Why it had to be him to end up with such an asshole?

Diego was ready to say something but the bell rang and they headed to the classroom, where Varyyn was already waiting for them.

Until lunch break, the day was pretty chill for Ashton. Nothing exciting happened, besides the fact that he got another F in math. His soulmate still hasn’t done anything stupid – they were still probably sleeping much to Ashton’s content. Everything was going surprisingly well. Until he sat down with his friends at lunch at their usual spot behind the school.

“Why all of you are looking at me like that?” He squinted his eyes. “And where’s Diego?” He asked after he noticed his best friend isn’t here.

“I know who is your soulmate!” Diego screamed before anyone had the opportunity to answer his question, running towards them and making some people turn their head in their direction. “Ashton! I know!” He gasped, panting.

“What are you talking about?” Ashton asked a few seconds later giving his friends a moment to cool down.

“Ohhh you’re gonna be so pissed!” Diego said with a huge grin on his face while eating his salad like nothing happened.

“Care to finally enlighten me? Or do you plan to keep it to yourself forever?”

“Jake McKenzie.” Diego wiggled his eyebrows as the rest of the gang burst out laughing.

“I should’ve known you’re just gonna make fun of me.” Ashton rolled eyes and moved his attention to the sandwich laying before him.

“I’m not kidding! I’m serious!”

“Yeah sure. Of course, Ashton’s soulmate is the most popular guy in our school, two years older and on top of that probably the only person he dislikes.” Zahra commented sarcastically. “You should really try better.” She shook her head and go back to her phone.

“Oh c’mon! Look!” He pointed at the door through which Jake just came in. “You said your soulmate stayed up late yesterday, getting a tattoo, right? Right. Jake has a brand new tattoo and… I overheard that he was at the party yesterday.” He pointed out. “I mean I don’t know about you but to me, it’s pretty obvious he’s your soulmate.”

And he was right, Jake had a new tattoo on the arm – in the same place he felt pain the night before but that could easily be a coincidence. And as Zahra implied there was no way in hell that Jake McKenzie would be his soulmate. And even if that’d be an option Ashton truly didn’t want that.

“Okay, let’s say that somehow he is my soulmate what is just ridiculous by the way, don’t you think one of us would figure it out by now?” Ashton asked, sceptically.

“No, I don’t. Think about it. We’ve been here not even for a year now and well it’s not like you two are friends. You’re bearly even in the same room most of the time so no I would say it has even more sense now.”

“I’m still not buying it. This is too much of a coincidence.”

“If you say so.” Diego shrugged. “But you’ll mention my words”
