Not Your Perfect Match (PM, Alana x MC)

It’s a Perfect Match fanfic starring our beloved squad, set during the night flight to Tokyo. I imagined a love triangle between Alana, Hayden and MC…..more precisely Alana unexpectedly realizing to have feelings for MC and getting jealous of and Hayden (Female Hayden, sorry not sorry 😅). Oh, I used the gender-neutral pronoun “they”  for MC (Jordan) so that you can choose MC gender. Hope you enjoy it!

They were all sitting on the Interpol jet. Destination: Tokyo. Destination: Damien. Nadia was taking a nap, resting her head on Steve’s shoulder. It took a while but, in the end, he convinced her to get some sleep during the flight. It didn’t work with Sloane though: she insisted that she was fine and there was no need for extra shut-eye. When Hayden raised an eyebrow at her, she admitted that she wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing what was next. So, she ended up solving some math games “just to relax”. Nobody could tell if she succeeded because she still looked pretty nervous. Dames was extremely quiet. He hadn’t said a word since they left the apartment and was now sitting in his seat with his eyes closed as if he was sleeping. They all knew he wasn’t, it was just his way to make clear that he didn’t want to interact with anybody else.

Alana was staring out of the window absent-mindedly. She sat a bit far from the others – she wasn’t sure whether everyone forgave her for what she did or not and decided to give them space. They’re close to Damien and I…well I guess I’m not their favorite person right now. She was keeping an eye on them, though. She was trained for that and would have never let anything bad happened to them on this flight. “Not on my watch” she repeated to herself, driving to the airport. “This whole situation is so messed up, if I just-” she was thinking looking out into the dark night sky when her train of thought was interrupted by a chuckle. No, it was more like a soft laugh.

She instinctively turned her head to the sound. It was Hayden. She was sitting a few rows ahead, her head impossibly close to Jordan. “What? It was hilarious, you should give me that!” She said bumping Jordan’s arm playfully.

“You’re gonna whisper the silliest knock-knock jokes into my ear for the whole flight?” Jordan asked, failing to suppress a smile.

The smirk on Hayden’s face faded away as she threw him a concerned look. “If it’s what it takes to make you smile, you bet I’ll do. You’re so upset even if you try to hide it…and don’t get me wrong, I understand it and respect it. We all are, I cannot even start to think what Eros is doing to-” She stopped abruptly and took a meaningful pause. Then she spoke again. “Or I can sing you a song. I’ve learnt some great French songs when we were in Paris. I even made a playlist, you know just in case…Would you like that?”. She smiled weakly as she stroke their cheek lovingly.

Jordan took her hand into theirs and intertwined their fingers before placing a tender kiss on her wrist.

“You’re such a sweetheart Hayden. Just having you here means a lot to me.” They looked her in the eye fondly. “I love you”.

“Hey, I’m not going anywhere, mon amour” she said softly brushing her lips over Jordan’s and holding them tight.

Hayden, the Perfect Match”.These words echoed in Alana’s head. The Perfect Match. Yeah, no doubt, Hayden was perfect: kind-hearted, romantic, a goofball when needed, good manners, a charming smile…but she was not real. She was a robot, even though she didn’t look like one. God, she really could have fooled you.

Alana couldn’t help but wonder, as she was looking at the lovebirds: “How did you end up with a robot?”. She felt a sting of…what was it? C’mon, Jordan didn’t need a dating or matchmaking service (not mention a matchmaking service of undercover psychos with a sick God complex!) to find a partner, they just didn’t! It made no sense. She went back to their chat last night. They were the first to trust and forgive her after her betrayal, even though she could tell they weren’t a total fool and kept an eye on her the whole time. They didn’t mind joining her last night when she needed to hit the bar and take her mind off things for a couple of hours. Even Interpol agents need that every now and then. God knows if we need it…They let her explain herself and talk about herself: Damien, her job, her wondrous yet ill daddy… It was the first time in a while she opened up to someone like that. It felt…amazing, refreshing. They didn’t interrupt her, they just listened carefully and occasionally cracked jokes and some flirty lines. Involuntarily probably? Or so it seemed to her but seeing them now with Hayden…it’s hard to tell. What if it was all in my head?

Alana shut her eyes at the thought and went back to look out at the night sky. When they parted ways, they gave her a hug and thanked her for trusting them enough to open up. “I can tell it’s hard for you, I mean in your line of work and well, in general, I think…and yeah I’m perfectly aware that this is the understatement of the century” they said. “Thanks for coming around, we really need you, Alana. Now more than ever, I guess” they added, rubbing the back of their neck. Then they smiled weakly at her before walking back to the flat.

She remembered the reassuring warmth of their body against hers, the genuine softness of their voice, the sound of their laugh, their sad smile on their tired face when they left, the depth of his eyes even with dark circles around them. A thought hit her. A most uncomfortable thought. “No, it can’t be!”. She turned back to where Jordan and Hayden were sitting. Their head was now resting on Hayden’s one and they were cuddled up together. Their closed and their arms around each other as they tried to get some rest.

It was. A pained smile crossed Alana’s face. “They’re Damien’s best friend and they…they’re Hayden’s”. She diverted her eyes from them. “No, they…it would never work anyway. They have their life out there, sure they’re cute and caring and all but they wouldn’t tolerate the pressure of being with an Interpol agent. They don’t deserve this. I mean, their life has been turned upside down so quickly, they need someone who’s there for them, who make them feel loved and safe and I just can’t! Showing affection isn’t my strong suit and if we get to close I couldn’t even keep him safe. Jeez, it’s like the first thing they teach you at the academy: never get involved, you need to keep your distance if you don’t want to put yourself and others in some serious danger. No, I would just mess it up, again. I mean maybe the whole true love thing is not meant for me, it’s just the price I have to pay, right?” She sighed as the last words echoed once again in her head. “After all, there’s a reason why I…“  – she whispered almost imperceptibly to her reflection in the window – ”I am your perfect match“.
