summary: after being confronted about it, hayden confesses to being a robot in hope that joe will understand but not everything goes as planned
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Joe asked when Hayden came back home.
“Didn’t tell you about what?” He furrowed his brows.
“I can’t believe you lied to me like that. But then again I shouldn’t be surprised since you don’t have a heart.” Joe scoffed.
“Joe…” Hayden swallowed hard as the realization hit him.
He had absolutely no idea what to do or say. The first thing that came to him was pure regret. Even though he wasn’t allowed to talk about it he should know better. He should know that of all people Joe would understand – he probably wouldn’t want to be in a relationship with him but maybe they would be some kind of friends? But now, Hayden knew that everything’s lost. Because Joe couldn’t stand lying. Since not so long ago almost every person in his life was hiding something, lying to him and Hayden knew about it. And what made it even worse he swore to never lie to him…
“How- how did you know?” Hayden asked hoping there’s a way to somehow make things right.
“It really doesn’t matter.” Joe chuckled humorlessly. “You know exactly how I feel about liars. You promised you’ll never do this. And you didn’t fucking tell me you’re a robot?!”
“I’m sorry.”
“I don’t care. What do you expect me to do? Accept your apology and pretend like nothing happened? Do you really think I’d do that?”
“I know you and I know you wouldn’t.”
“I can’t believe how stupid I was. This whole time when Damien was saying there’s something suspicious, something wrong with you… I was standing up for you I told him to drop it… And he was right all along.” Joe shook his head, his eyes watering. “I don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore.”
“Joe please don’t do it.” Hayden took a few steps toward Joe but he immediately backed away.
“Get out,” Joe whispered. “Get the fuck out. Now.” He repeated louder hen Hayden didn’t move.
“Please let me explain…” Hayden tried again.
“I don’t wanna hear your explanation! I don’t want more lies! Just leave me alone! You’ve done enough!” Joe yelled and angrily wiped away the tears from his face.
Hayden didn’t say more. He knew there’s no point – at least not right now. He let him down and Joe was beyond hurt. He needed some space and if there was even a little chance that Joe would ever forgive him or agree to listen to him Hayden prefered to not make him angrier than he already was. So he did the only thing he could in this situation and left Joe alone.
