The drinks were flowing and we were all laughing, getting to know Eva. It was a good night and good company.
I stole a glance at Grayson, who was sitting next to me, wishing we could let him on the secret. I wasn’t sure why I hadn’t told him, except that it wasn’t just my secret to tell.
I bit my lip without realizing what I was doing, casting another thoughtful look at Grayson. Our eyes met and the look in his stopped had me forgetting to breathe. Then a second later, he was pulling me tight against him, his lips crushing mine.
I kissed him back eagerly, wrapping my arms around his neck, desperate to be as close to him as possible. I don’t know how long we stayed like that, our lips and bodies joined but eventually, I became aware of a loud coughing sound and remembered where we were.
I pulled away from Grayson, blushing fiercely to see everyone at the table looking at us with varying degrees of amusement and interest.
“Maybe you two should go find somewhere more private?” Poppy suggested with a grin. I glared at her, but she just grinned wider.
“I think that sounds like a good idea,” Grayson agreed, his arm still around me, “what do you think, Lexi?” His eyes were warm as they looked into mine and I saw the promise there.
I knew this was the turning point in our relationship. We had been working up to something, but if I said yes, there would be no more beating around the bush. Especially like this, with both Kenji and Eva watching intently.
“I’d like that,” I agreed after a moment, getting to my feet. I wanted to be with Grayson and I didn’t care who knew it. I wanted this moment, wanted to see what we could become.
Grayson stood up as well and wrapped his arm around my waist as we said our goodbyes to everyone else and then he let me out of the club and into a waiting taxi.
“Are you sure?” He asked as he gave the driver his address.
“I am,” I told him, leaning against him.
We snuggled the whole ride, lost in our little world. Finally, we reached his apartment. As soon as the door closed behind us, Grayson pulled me into his arms. He kissed me hungrily, his hands caressing me.
“I want you,” he told me, pulling away long enough to look me directly in the eye, “I’ve wanted you for so long.”
“I want you too,” I assured him, pulling him back towards me and kissing him again.
It was a jumble of hands and mouths as we kissed and caressed and pulled at each other’s clothing. We left a trail of clothes all over his apartment as we stumbled towards his bedroom, completely wrapped up in each other.
Afterward, I lay in Grayson’s arms, a little dazed. “That was…”
“Yeah,” he agreed, seeming a little dazed himself. He pressed a kiss to my shoulder. “But I don’t know why I’m surprised, everything you do is amazing, Lexi.”
I blushed, “well, it wasn’t just me.” I turned my face so that I was looking him, “we’ve always made a pretty good team.”
He smiled and pulled me a little closer, “yes we have and I hope we always will.”
He placed a gentle hand on my face. “I don’t know if this is the right time for this, but… I don’t want this to be one night, Lexi.”
“I don’t either,” I assured him, “I want to be with you, Grayson.”
I knew that we would have a lot of stuff to figure out, namely that pesky superhero secret, but I was confident we would work it out. There was nothing that could stop me from wanting to be with Grayson, nothing that could ever keep me away from him.
