I’ve Got You – Beckett x MC

Summary: Unable to sleep after everything that happened with Atlas in the mirror dimension, MC (Lana) goes to Beckett’s room.

Notes: This scene takes place just after the events of Chapter 11.

As Lana lay in her bed, she could hear the steady rise and fall of her twin’s breathing from the floor. With everything that had happened that day, she’d thought she’d fall asleep easily but instead she felt keyed up and on edge. She rolled over and picked up her phone from the night stand–1:47AM. Lana flopped back on the pillow, frustrated. Then, she had an idea.

u still awake?

The reply text came through a minute later. Yes, I was just finishing tomorrow’s reading. Are you alright?

can i come over?

This time, the response was almost immediate. Yes.

Lana climbed carefully out of bed, trying her best not to wake Atlas. However, Atlas appeared to be an extremely deep sleeper, for which Lana was grateful. She slipped on a sweatshirt over her short and tank top, zipping it up before she took a blank piece of paper off of her desk and scribbled a quick note to Atlas that she would be back soon in case she woke up. Lana didn’t want to think about what sort of careless havoc Atlas might wreak if she woke up to find Lana gone without a note.

When she arrived at Beckett’s suite, he was waiting for her.

“Are you okay?” he asked as he gently pulled her into a hug. Lana closed her eyes for a moment and let herself breathe in his comforting scent.

“Yeah, I just couldn’t sleep,” she said. Lana wanted to tell him about Atlas and Raife Highmore and the shadow monsters, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it yet. She knew Beckett would have dozens of questions and she wasn’t sure she knew how to answer them, not yet.

“I’m glad you’re here,” Beckett said as he let go of her.

“Yeah?” Lana asked, a teasing smile playing across her lips. “Why am I not surprised you’re glad to see me in your bedroom in the middle of the night?”

A blush bloomed across his cheeks. “No, um, I mean, yes, I am glad you’re here, but not for that. Not that I don’t enjoy that…with you…” He stopped and took a breath. “This isn’t coming out correctly. I went to the hospital wing to get you some salve for your cuts, I was going to bring it over to you in the morning.”

Lana smiled at him, a warm glow filling her that she knew had nothing to do with her Attunement capabilities.

“What?” Beckett asked when he saw how she was looking at him. “Was that…not okay?”

“No, it is,” Lana said. “It’s definitely okay. I’m really touched you did that.”

Beckett cleared his throat as his blush deepened. “If you want, I could help you.”

Lana unzipped her sweatshirt and took it off, draping it over the back of his desk chair. Beckett unscrewed the small tub and began to apply it carefully, his touch delicate as he dabbed the salve on each cut and scrape etched across her pale skin. As she stood there, it occurred to Lana how good it felt to let someone else take over for a little while. She wasn’t exactly sure what was about to happen with Raife Highmore, but Atlas had made it sound like it was up to them to stop him and Lana just felt…tired.

Beckett brushed her skin, carefully kneeling to examine her bare legs. Lana reached out and gently ran her fingers through his hair. She saw the edges of his lips quirk up in a smile as he smoothed salve on a long, thin, angry red line on her shin.

“I think that’s all of them,” Beckett said, leaning over to plant a soft kiss on her leg before he stood up. He screwed the top back on the salve and set it on his desk.

“Thank you,” Lana said as she slid her arms around his waist. Beckett held her to him and kissed the top of her head.

“I’m happy to help.” He swallowed. “Um, I’m about to go to bed, but do you want to stay? You don’t have to if you don’t want to,” he added quickly, “but I just thought maybe–”

“I’d like that,” she said, interrupting him before he could talk himself out of it.

“Good,” Beckett said, sounding relieved.

He led her over to the bed and pulled back the covers for her and Lana settled in. Beckett carefully pulled up the covers around her shoulders before he turned to his dresser. She watched him change out of his rumpled blazer and into a pair of plaid pajama pants and a gray t-shirt. Lana recognized the latter; it was one of her favorites to steal from him. Beckett clicked off the light and climbed into bed beside her, pulling her to him and wrapping er in his arms. Lana closed her eyes as she rested her head against his chest, comforted by the steady beat of his heart. He put his hand on hers and she hooked her pinkie around his index finger, causing him to kiss the top of her head again.

“I’m glad you’re okay,” he said quietly into her hair. “I was…I was really scared today when all those mirrors shattered,” he admitted. “And you don’t have to talk about what happened in there yet, I just…wanted you to know I’m happy you’re here.”

I love you, Lana thought as she snuggled closer to him, feeling safer than she had since she’d gone through the mirror that afternoon. She started to relax in his arms and before long, she heard Beckett’s breath grow slow and even. Lana was about to drift off herself, but a nagging thought pulled her from the edge of sleep.

“Your friends are the only ones with these bracelets, right?”

Lana opened her eyes and settled her gaze on Beckett’s Pend Pals bracelet. The thought that one of her friends had betrayed her caused a dark pain to twist within her. She couldn’t believe Beckett would do that, but, then again, she couldn’t believe any of them could do it–and yet one of them had.

She drifted off into a fitful sleep, uneasy thoughts plaguing her dreams. But each time she startled awake, Beckett was there to pull her close and soothe away the monsters.

“I’ve got you,” he whispered. “I’ve got you.”
